Prawns are a very good source of omega 3 fatty acids and a good cholesterol improver . Here is a simple traditional recipe…..iguru is not a complete dry item and not too much gravy.

Raw Prawns-1/2 kilo (deshelled and deveined)

Onions-2 medium, finely chopped

Oil-4tbs or less

Curry leaves-few

Ginger & Garlic Paste-1 tbs

Green chillies-4(according to taste) slit lengthwise or chopped

Red Chilli Powder-1 tbs

Coriander Powder-1 tbs

Turmeric-3 to 4 pinches or 1/4 tbs

Garam Masala-1 tbs

Grounded coconut paste-5 tbs

Salt-To taste

Coriander leaves-1 bunch, finely chopped

Take Prawns in to a pan, add little turmeric, some salt, 1 tbs of oil and little water (4 tbs water) .close the pan with a lid and keep it on a low flame and let it cook until the water evaporates…and keep the prawns aside

Heat oil in a pan and fry the onions until transparent with curry leaves and chopped green chilies in it…

Add ginger garlic paste and sauté for half a minute

Add the prawns and mix

Fry it for about 2 to 3 minutes … on a medium low flame.

Add the coriander powder and mix well and taste it for salt and adjust.

Now add Red chili powder,Garam masala powder and mix well and simmer for 1 minute

Finally add the grounded coconut and stir well for 1 to 2 minutes

Add some 100 ml water and mix and let it simmer until u get the desired consistency.

Now take it in to a pan and garnish with chopped coriander.

Coconut powder / paste are purely optional. It makes the dish tastier and a bit heavier too. (In Andhra coconut is a must for this dish).

Cooking/boiling the prawns separately and then mixing it to the sautéed onions is one method which so many people follow.

Instead you can add prawns directly (without pre boiling) to the sautéed onions and can cook. And then follow the same procedure. In this method u have to use much water to make the prawns smooth.
