Ingredients:
Raw Prawns-1/2 kilo (deshelled and deveined)
Onions-2 medium, finely chopped
Oil-4tbs or less
Curry leaves-few
Ginger & Garlic Paste-1 tbs
Green chillies-4(according to taste) slit lengthwise or chopped
Red Chilli Powder-1 tbs
Coriander Powder-1 tbs
Turmeric-3 to 4 pinches or 1/4 tbs
Garam Masala-1 tbs
Grounded coconut paste-5 tbs
Salt-To taste
Coriander leaves-1 bunch, finely chopped
Procedure:
Take Prawns in to a pan, add little turmeric, some salt, 1 tbs of oil and little water (4 tbs water) .close the pan with a lid and keep it on a low flame and let it cook until the water evaporates…and keep the prawns aside
Heat oil in a pan and fry the onions until transparent with curry leaves and chopped green chilies in it…
Add ginger garlic paste and sauté for half a minute
Add the prawns and mix
Fry it for about 2 to 3 minutes … on a medium low flame.
Add the coriander powder and mix well and taste it for salt and adjust.
Now add Red chili powder,Garam masala powder and mix well and simmer for 1 minute
Finally add the grounded coconut and stir well for 1 to 2 minutes
Add some 100 ml water and mix and let it simmer until u get the desired consistency.
Now take it in to a pan and garnish with chopped coriander.
Tips:
Coconut powder / paste are purely optional. It makes the dish tastier and a bit heavier too. (In Andhra coconut is a must for this dish).
Cooking/boiling the prawns separately and then mixing it to the sautéed onions is one method which so many people follow.
Instead you can add prawns directly (without pre boiling) to the sautéed onions and can cook. And then follow the same procedure.In this method u have to use much water to make the prawns smooth.
