Upma is the most popular breakfast recipe in South India.It can be made with Suji ( Bombay rava) or Daliya( godhuma rava in Telugu).Upma can be eaten with Coconut chutney or sambar or chinthapandu pachadi(Telugu style) or kobbari karam, pudina karam, kandi podi etc.,
Ingredients:
Daliya or cracked Wheat-1 cup
Water-2 cups and a little more
Oil-3 to 4 tbsp.
Onion-1 medium to small ,chopped
Green chilies-3,slit length wise
Ginger-1/4 inch,chopped
Curry leaves-few
Mustard seeds-1/4tbsp
Chana daal(Bengal gram)-1 tbsp.
Udid daal-1 tbsp.
Salt- to taste
Cashew nuts-2 tbsp.
Procedure:
Heat oil in a pan or kadai.Put chana daal,udid daal,Cashew nuts and mustard seeds.Let the mustard seeds crackle and then put chopped ginger,slit green chilies,curry leaves,chopped onions and mix well.
Add some slat.fry until the onions are slightly transparent.
Now add water and add the remaining salt.
When the water comes to boil then add daliya and mix well.reduce the flame to low.Stir continuously and wait until you get the desired consistency and the Upma is ready.
If you are not particular about consistency then Instead of stirring continuously u can just close it with a lid and after 4 to 5 minutes the upma will be ready.
